Volunteer Policy

This policy outlines the roles, responsibilities, and rights of volunteers within our organization.

  1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Ensure that volunteers are treated with respect and provided with a safe working environment.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of volunteers and the organization.
  • Provide guidelines for the recruitment, management, and support of volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian laws and ACNC Governance Standards.
  1. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals who volunteer for Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd, including short-term, long-term, and event-based volunteers.

  1. Volunteer Roles

Volunteers may engage in a variety of roles, including:

  • Supporting outreach programs, such as street evangelism and addiction recovery initiatives.
  • Assisting in fundraising, administrative, or event-related tasks.
  • Providing mentoring and discipleship services within our ministries.

The specific duties of each volunteer will be outlined in a Volunteer Agreement, which will clearly state the expectations, duration of service, and responsibilities of the volunteer.

  1. Volunteer Recruitment

The recruitment of volunteers will be conducted in a fair and non-discriminatory manner. All potential volunteers will undergo an application and interview process to ensure that they are suited to the role. Recruitment may include:

  • Reference checks.
  • Police clearance checks (if required by the role).
  • Working with Children Check or Vulnerable Persons Check (for roles involving minors or vulnerable individuals).
  1. Induction and Training

All volunteers will receive appropriate induction and training to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties safely and effectively. Training may include:

  • Introduction to the mission and values of Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd.
  • Specific training related to the volunteer’s role.
  • Information on relevant policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and privacy.
  1. Volunteer Rights

Volunteers have the right to:

  • A safe and healthy work environment.
  • Be treated with respect and dignity.
  • Receive appropriate training and support.
  • Be reimbursed for pre-approved out-of-pocket expenses incurred while volunteering.
  • Clear and open communication with staff and leadership.
  • Protection from discrimination, harassment, and bullying.
  1. Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Adhere to the values and mission of Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd.
  • Perform their duties to the best of their abilities and in line with the instructions provided.
  • Respect the confidentiality of any sensitive information encountered while volunteering.
  • Notify the organization if they are unable to attend a scheduled volunteer activity.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures, including health and safety and safeguarding policies.
  • Refrain from engaging in any activity that could bring the organization into disrepute.

Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd is committed to providing a safe working environment for all volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for adhering to all health and safety protocols, reporting any hazards or incidents, and ensuring their actions do not endanger themselves or others.

  1. Recognition and Support

We value the contributions of our volunteers and are committed to recognizing their efforts. Volunteers will be supported through:

  • Regular feedback and supervision.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.
  • Inclusion in events and celebrations to recognize their contributions.
  1. Grievance Procedure

If a volunteer has any concerns or grievances, they are encouraged to raise the issue with their supervisor or the Volunteer Coordinator. Any complaints will be addressed in a fair and timely manner in accordance with the organization’s grievance procedures.

  1. Termination of Volunteer Agreement

While we are committed to providing a positive volunteering experience, Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd reserves the right to terminate a volunteer’s involvement if they:

  • Breach any policies or procedures.
  • Engage in misconduct or unsafe behavior.
  • Are unable to fulfill the requirements of their role.

Volunteers may also choose to terminate their volunteer service by providing reasonable notice.

  1. Confidentiality

Volunteers may have access to confidential information related to the organization or its beneficiaries. Volunteers must not disclose any confidential information unless authorized by the organization or required by law.

  1. Insurance

Global Breakthrough Ministries Ltd provides insurance coverage for all registered volunteers while they are engaged in approved activities. This includes personal accident and public liability insurance.

  1. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and effective in supporting volunteers and meeting legal obligations.
